MAKING MERCURY INCENSE: MY RECIPE

I am taking part in a two-week planetary challenge that started on Monday.

The challenge is simple: you pick a single goal and invoke one planet every other day following the Chaldean order, targeting different aspects of the same goal.

Today was the day to invoke Mercury and I had to make Mercury incense because I had very little left. The recipe I use is the one that has worked best for me.

INGREDIENTS

  • Frankincense

  • Mastic

  • Cassia

  • Cardamon (whole)

  • Star Anise

  • Whole Cloves

  • Lavender

  • Jasmine

I didn't have dried jasmine so I used jasmine essential oil instead. You will also need a coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle. If you are making this without a grinder of any kind, you will need to shred the cardamon to tiny pieces using your hands or a pair of scissors. If you currently have high temperatures where you live, I recommend putting the frankincense and mastic in the freezer for a while or you won't be able to crush them properly (especially the mastic). Keep in mind that mastic turns into a sticky fluid when heated, so only use a little.

MAKING THE INCENSE

On Wednesday in the hour of Mercury collect all your ingredients.

Grind or crush everything together.

If you are using essential oils, add these after crushing everything together and stir with a spoon.

Transfer the incense to the container you want to keep it in (pick one with a lid).

Draw an eight-pointed star big enough to place your container with the incense in the middle, draw the symbol of Mercury in the center and place the incense on top, then light an orange candle at each point of the star.

Alternatively, you can use a single orange candle and etch the symbol of Mercury on it.

Chant the letter E (eh). Keep chanting until you feel a kind of mental "click". Read the Orphic hymn to Mercury eight times.

You can also conjure Tiriel, the intelligence of Mercury, and ask him to consecrate your incense to the sphere of Mercury.
